THE VILLAGE OF OKEFORD FITZPAINE- Okeford Fitzpaine is one of Dorset's most attractive villages, exhibiting rural charm and a relaxed pace. The cottage is in a conservation area of the village because of its historical interest and beauty. Only a very short walk away, you will find a friendly pub (The Royal Oak) and a village shop/post office (which is open weekdays from 7am to 7pm, Sat 7am to 5pm and Sun 7am to midday). The local Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers superb walks. If you climb up Okeford Hill, just behind the church, you will be rewarded with magnificent views across the Blackmore Vale. The nearby Hambledon Hill is owned by the National Trust. It is a huge Iron Age hill fort with a history dating back even further to the Neolithic era. This and the wonderful Bulbarrow Hill, one of Dorset's highest points, are just a short drive from the cottage.
